Based on their different purposes we can classify four main assessment models, namely, diagnostic, continuous, formative and summative assessment. In TE/TB education we need assessment for two main reasons:

  • Criterion-referenced assessment determines the level of competence of the learner termed
  • Norm-referenced assessment compares or rank the learners’ abilities.
